Conference Objective
To promote the sharing of ideas and concepts among diverse groups with common interests, such as nonprofit organizations, Trout Unlimited chapters, sportsmen's groups, and watershed associations, along with environmental professionals from conservation districts, agencies, and consulting firms. This year's conference will focus on the protection and management of our headwater ecosystems and highlight the emerging research and successful partnerships that keep our headwater streams healthy.
Sessions
On Friday, February 22, the conference will begin with an optional afternoon workshop on headwater taxonomy and field identification. We'll have hands-on breakout sessions looking at amphibians, reptiles, fish, plants, invertebrates, and mussels common to our cold-water ecosystems. Friday evening will feature a reception with opportunities to network in the display area; the reception will include appetizers, a cash bar, and music.
Please note that the workshop on headwater taxonomy and field identification is full.
On Saturday, February 23, the program will begin at 8:30 a.m. with our keynote speakers. Larry Schweiger from the National Wildlife Federation and Bern Sweeney from the Stroud Water Research Center will present information about the perils facing our headwater streams, the imperative to protect these ecosystems, and what is being done to ensure their long-term health. Eight breakout sessions will round off the morning and afternoon, with topics related to the latest research on headwater ecosystems, management tools and techniques for improving the health of your watershed, and methods to best protect these precious ecosystems. As always, participants will be treated to a buffet lunch.
