Description

This workshop is designed to increase the cultural understanding of professionals who deal with sexuality education of Latino youth and their families. The most updated information on sexual health issues experienced by Latino youth, including teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, will be provided. Strategies and resources for making sexuality education culturally appropriate will be shared.

Objectives

  • describe the diversity of Latinos in the United States and in our local communities
  • explore the beliefs and values that are important in Latino culture
  • compare the myths and stereotypes to the realities and diversity of sexual expression among Latinos
  • identify the incidence of teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections among Latino youth and the factors that contribute to these health issues
  • share strategies and resources for making sexuality education more culturally appropriate for Latino youth and their families
