Who Should Attend the Instructional Camps

Penn State Instructional Ice Hockey Camps are designed for students ages 11 through 18. High school graduates are also eligible to enroll.

About the Camps

Penn State Instructional Ice Hockey Camps accommodate various age groups and skill levels and are designed to help players develop fundamental skills for playing more effectively as individuals and team members. Emphasis is placed on both individual and team skills and concepts. The camps feature a high-quality staff of instructors from top colleges and prep schools.

Camp Highlights

  • At least three hours of ice daily
  • Skating dynamics: speed and quickness development
  • Power skating video analysis
  • Electronically timed speed and shooting tests
  • Skills development: puck control, passing, shooting, and checking
  • Individual and team tactics: one-on-one, two-on-one, face-offs, and more
  • Team systems: breakouts, offensive play, forechecking, defensive zone coverage, neutral zone play, and special teams play
  • Individual player evaluation forms
  • Daily chalk talks and videos
  • Off-ice activities: swimming, soccer, dry-land training demonstrations, glideboards, and more
  • Penn State hockey camp jersey for each player
  • Trainers on duty twenty-four hours

Goaltending Instruction

(applies to all camps)

  • Additional on-ice instruction (goalies must wear throat protectors)
  • Goalie instructors to provide specialized training on and off the ice
  • Video analysis for each goalie
  • Special goalie fees

Camp Acceptance

Applications will be processed by position on a first-come, first-served basis until the session is filled. Because of the organization of the camp instructional program, it is necessary to accept applicants on the basis of age level and position played. For this reason, applicants of certain positions and age levels will be closed out when that age level and position are filled.

Recreation—During camp, participants can spend their free time enjoying Penn State's many recreational facilities, including the outdoor swimming pool.
